ed mcmahon dies

Ed McMahon, who for nearly 30 years was Johnny Carson’s affable second banana on ‘The Tonight Show,’ introducing it with his ringing trademark call, ‘Heeeere’s Johnny!,’ died early Tuesday in Los Angeles,” Richard Severo writes. He has passed away at 86.

McMahon died shortly after midnight at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center surrounded by his wife, Pam, and other family members, said his publicist, Howard Bragman. McMahon was fighting a multitude of health problems, including cancer.

Bragman didn't give a cause of death, saying only that McMahon had a "multitude of health problems the last few months."

Someone connected with the family told us, "Ed was at peace because he got his business taken care of. He settled his lawsuit with Cedars and with the settlement he was able to take care of his family."

Though Mr. McMahon had also been a host of the talent program “Star Search” and the prank show “TV Bloopers and Practical Jokes,” he is best remembered for his years as Mr. Carson’s announcer and sidekick, and for a deep resonant laugh that unfailingly followed even the worst of Mr. Carson’s jokes.

He was a colonel in the United States Marines and a fighter pilot and served during the late 1940s and 1950s.

Ed was one of the good guys and a true American hero!
