Cop Without A Badge: Danielle Staub and Kevin Maher

Here is a picture of Cop Without a Badge by Kevin Maher. Is Danielle Staub (Real Housewives of New Jersey) in the book Cop Without a Badge, with or without a mugshot?

That’s suggestion and teaser given for next week’s episode reportedly

The Real Housewives of New Jersey first season started on May 12, 2009. Last week of Real Housewives of New Jersey, it was revealed that The Real Housewives of New Jersey have lazy, entitled, overindulged, poorly educated kids. This week, wash, rinse, repeat, only replace “kids” with “women”.
The promos looked so boring. But suddenly the drama is exploding and we are only at episode two.

Where’s that ex husband? Is there a mug shot? Danielle Staub is the Real Housewives of New Jersey diva of drama. Danielle Staub - from alleged mug shots, to phone sex, and sex in a restaurant offers - has covered a lot in just two tv weeks.

In episode one Danielle Staub reportedly covers just a bit in the storyline. What you may ask? Phone sex. Oh yes. This is not your mother’s Bravo channel anymore. And the chatter-luv didn’t just start yesterday, reveals Danielle Staub. Nope, it’s gone on for 2 years with a guy she doesn’t know.

Oh, but then there is episode 2. There is an offer to perform an oral service on another guy in a restaurant.

Star Magazine reported that at the beginning of April Danielle Staub was arrested at her Wayne, NJ mansion. Apparently, Danielle Staub has yet to pay her divorce lawyers because her ex-hubby - some exercise equipment manufacturer hasn’t anted up on her divorce settlement. I don’t know how much Danielle Staub stands to gain in the settlement, but her lawyers fees are in the six figures and they want their money. So, they issued a civil action contempt warrant.

Says reports:

Next week, we learn that Danielle, and possibly her mug shot, is featured in the now out-of-print “Cop Without a Badge,” the true-life story of a former con turned criminal informant.

Translation - if you own a used copy of this book, put it up on Ebay because its most sought after book overnight Tuesday!

The publisher describes the book as follows:

Former FBI and Secret Service agent Kevin Maher describes the intervention that prevented him from following a life of crime and recounts his dangerous career in which he solved homicides, targeted the mafia, and fought in the drug war.

But online reader reviews of the book on Amazon are horrible. The book published in 1995 garnered the follow comments on Amazon in 2002:

jay bennett died at 45

Jay Bennett, a rock musician with deep ties to Chicago best known as a former member of Wilco, died early Sunday morning in downstate Urbana, where he had been running a recording studio, according to a spokesman for his family.
The singer and multi-instrumentalist was 45 years old.

"Early this morning, Jay died in his sleep and an autopsy is being performed," said Edward Burch, a friend and musician who collaborated with Bennett on the 2005 album "The Palace at 4 a.m." "The family is in mourning and is unavailable for comment at this time."

In the late ‘80s, Bennett founded the rock band Titanic Love Affair in Urbana, Ill., which lasted into the mid-‘90s. He was best known for his seven years in adventurous rock act Wilco. Bennett split from the Chicago-based group in 2001, and since his departure had been pursuing a solo career, as well as operating Pieholden Suite Sound – named after a song on Wilco’s 1999 album “Summerteeth” -- in Champaign , Ill.

Bennett released the solo effort “Whatever Happened I Apologize” via the Web late last year, and reported at that time that he was pursuing "another" master’s degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Yet it was Bennett’s time in Wilco that won him the most acclaim.

He had a not-so-amicable split from the band in 2001, which was documented in the 2002 film “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart” and Greg Kot’s book “Wilco: Learning How to Die.” He did, however, play a major role in the band as a writer, producer and musician. The orchestrated pop of “Summerteeth” further stripped Wilco of its country-rock roots, and 2002’s “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” saw the band move into more atmospheric territory.

Bennett was asked to leave the group before “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” was released, and his relationship with Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy remained strained. In early May of this year, Bennett filed suit against his former band mate for breach of contract stemming from his participation in “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.” Bennett was seeking damages in excess of $50,000, according to court papers.

In late April, Bennett wrote on his MySpace blog about dealing with intense pain from a hip injury suffered during a dive from the stage while playing with Titanic Love Affair. He was preparing to have surgery, but was concerned about his lack of health insurance. However, he also was looking forward to finishing his fifth solo album, "Kicking at the Perfumed Air," at his studio, Pieholden Suites, named after the song on "Summerteeth" that best encapsulates his talents as an arranger.

"This whole experience has really taught me to look both inward and outward for support, and I’ve learned things about myself that I thought I had completely figured out years ago," Bennett wrote on his MySpace page. "Family and friends have helped me to keep faith in a future that will actually be much more carefree than my constricted present state. I encourage you all to tell me stories of recovery, as they really do help."

Representatives for Wilco could not be reached for comment.

Ryan Leaf Indicted On Drug And Burglary Charges

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has been indicted by a Randall County grand jury on drug and burglary charges.

The indictment was handed up Wednesday in Canyon. It charged the 33-year-old former San Diego Chargers quarterback and former West Texas A&M quarterbacks coach with one count of burglary to a habitation, seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and delivery of a simulated controlled substance.

Canyon police Lt. Dale Davis said Leaf is suspected of breaking into a Canyon apartment on Oct. 30 and stealing the painkiller Hydrocodone, which had been prescribed to an injured football player.
James Farren, Randall County criminal district attorney, said Leaf has been undergoing drug rehabilitation in British Columbia, the Amarillo Globe-News reported. Farren told the newspaper that efforts were under way to try to convince Leaf to return to the United States on his own.

“We think the evidence will show that he obtained drugs in various ways from various individuals or by using prescription that were not his,” Randall County District Attorney James
Leaf played in the NFL from 1998-2001, a career considered one of the most tumultuous and biggest busts in league history after being chosen second overall by the Chargers in the 1998 draft. Quarterback Peyton Manning was chosen first by Indianapolis.

“It's sad when someone with a lot of talent finds himself in this situation,” Farren said. “At the same time, we don't have special rules for special people, and I'm just doing my job. I didn't relish the opportunity to take Ryan Leaf to a grand jury.”

Leaf could not be reached for comment.

Shawn Johnson wins 'Dancing With the Stars'

Shawn Johnson is adding a mirrorball trophy to her collection of Olympic medals.

The youngest competitor to ever be part of "Dancing with the Stars" is also its latest winner, as Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson took the trophy ball for the eighth season.

A gold medal gymnast, Johnson, 17, became the third Olympian to win the show after Apolo Ohno and Kristy Yamaguchi.

She and dance partner Mark Ballas were the only ones to score a perfect 30 in the freestyle dance of the finales Monday. All three finalists won perfect 30s for their final dances Tuesday. Johnson did a cha cha, second place finisher Gilles Marini did the Argentine tango and Melissa Rycroft, who finished third, did the samba.

"This has been the best experience ever," Johnson said after her victory. "I've grown so much."

Johnson was tied with fellow finalist Gilles Marini after Melissa Rycroft was dismissed earlier in Tuesday's show.

Show host Tom Bergeron said "less than 1 percent" separated the two finalists.

"This has been, without a doubt the best season ever," said head judge Len Goodman. "We've got the three best dancers here in the final."

Johnson had a scare in March when a 34-year-old man allegedly tried to break onto the "Dancing With the Stars" set, apparently to meet her. Police say Robert O'Ryan, who remains in custody on a stalking charge, jumped a fence at the studio lot after driving from Florida in a car loaded with guns, duct tape and love letters to Johnson. Filings by her parents said the incident caused her to fear for her safety.

But Johnson shook off the incident and used her athleticism to better effect with each passing week, looking less like a rigid, underaged gymnast and more like a powerful yet graceful dancer as she gained confidence.

Tuesday's season finale also featured a performance by Lady Gaga and the finale of the new pro-dancer competition. Anna Damidova competed with three other professional dancers for a spot on next season's "Dancing With the Stars."

And while Johnson as winner only gets the trophy and what Bergergon calls "the cheers, the love and the magazine covers that come with it,' another winner on the show Tuesday gets an actual job. Anna Demidova won a slot to be one of the professional dance partners when the show returns for its ninth season in the fall.

Norma McCorvey: Jane Roe Arrested??

Norma McCorvey, the “Jane Roe” from the Roe v Wade Supreme Court Decision, was arrested today on the Notre Dame Campus while protesting the visit by Barack Obama. But several online reports contradicts the first reports saying that Norma McCorvey has resisted arrest.

South Bend Fox28 reports McCorvery was not among the 4 arrested Sunday, currently being held on $250 bonds. An additional 21 were arrested during a protest yesterday.

Reports FOX:

Protesting today but not arrested was Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff identified as “Roe” in the Roe v. Wade

McCorvey had told press in advance of her protest:

“Hopefully we can convince Mr. Obama that he should be standing on the right side, and that’s the side for life. I’m pro-life now, I’m not afraid.”

Norma Leah McCorvey is best known by her pseudonym name Jane Roe. She was part of the landmark lawsuit Roe v. Wade in 1973. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that laws against abortion are unconstitutional. The court overturned individual state laws against abortion. That was then. Years later she changed her mind and became an advocate for the pro-life movement.

McCorvey claims she was a pawn of two ambitious lawyers, Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee, who were looking for a plaintiff with whom they could challenge the Texas law prohibiting abortion. The case, which claimed McCorvey had been impregnated as a result of a rape, took three year to reach the high court. McCorvey gave birth to a baby girl while awaiting the ruling and signed her over for adoption. She later recanted the rape story that was the basis of Roe v. Wade.

Norma has written several books, including I Am Roe in 1994. In 1995 she had a religious conversion and was received into the Roman Catholic Church. It was at that point that she changed her mind about abortion.

jim leyritz hospitalized after suicide threat

Former major leaguer Jim Leyritz who is facing trial on DUI manslaughter charges was taken to a Florida hospital after telling police he was concerned about failing a Breathalyzer test in his car, and was "under a lot of stress" because of his legal problems, authorities said Thursday.

The 45-year-old former catcher and designated hitter faces an upcoming trial in Fort Lauderdale on DUI manslaughter charges from a December 2007 crash that killed a woman.

Davie police spokesman Bill Coyne said Leyritz had blown into the Breathalyzer device in his car Wednesday in an attempt to start the vehicle, but the device indicated he had been drinking. Leyritz tried a second time and the device read he had not been drinking.

Leyritz told police he was having trouble sleeping, was anxious and may need medical attention.

A court ordered the device for Leyritz's car to monitor him for alcohol when he's behind the wheel. He must blow in it to start the car, and periodically while driving.
Leyritz played for six teams and last was in the majors in 2000 with the Dodgers. He won the World Series with the Yankees in 1996 and 1999.

Leyritz was released from a psychiatric unit at Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., Thursday afternoon, his ex-wife, Karri Leyritz told The New York Post.

american idol may 12

Why do I get the feeling tonight's round of three might be good entertainment but otherwise meaningless? Maybe it's because Danny Gokey and Kris Allen were so weak last Tuesday but were still safe on Wednesday.

American Idol on May 12 of 2009 is down to its Top 3 and for its 300th episode each of the guys had to sing two songs: a choice of their own and one chosen by one of the judges. Hands down, the guys picked better songs for tonight's American Idol than the judges. Between the guys, the competition is going to be close and the results may be narrow.

One nice thing about tonight is that for at least half the six tunes scheduled, we will not hear Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi criticize the song selection. The judges are going to pick one for each of the remaining three hopefuls with the young people free to choose any song they want for their other offering.

Danny gets a text from Paula while visiting a radio station in his hometown of Milwaukee. She's selected the upbeat Dance Little Sister for him to open the show.

Good thing this isn't a dance competition. Kara and Simon are both in synch with me about Danny's awkward footwork although Paula thought it was fine.

On the other hand, One Republic’s “Apologize” was the perfect song for Kris Allen’s voice and personality. He did a beautiful rendition of the song. And as Randy said, I think the song showed us what kind of future Kris has in the music business. And that’s the kind of music, I would buy.

Likewise, Simon picked a beautiful song for Adam Lambert to belt out. However, I have to say that I like U2’s version of “One” better than Adam’s. First it started off a little too slow and then it was a bit too much in the middle. But I give Adam props for adding his own spin to the song even if I didn’t favor it.

The guys returned for the second round with their own song choices. Ryan made it sound like a really big deal, but isn’t that what they’ve been doing all along is choosing their own songs. They just had a bigger selection to chose from this week.

Danny slowed things down with “You are so Beautiful” by Joe Cocker. It’s a gorgeous song, but again I’m not finding anything appealing in Danny’s voice. He didn’t do a bad job, but I find that all his songs fall into one of two sounds – upbeat (which includes the dancing) and ballad. This sounded like all his other ballads.

But if Danny put me to sleep, Kris woke me up with an awesome acoustic version of Kayne West’s “Heartless.” He might be quiet, humble and unassuming, but Kris will be remembered. Its performances like this that make him stand out. I can’t wait to hear this song again.

The night closed with Adam taking on “Crying.” I’m a huge fan of Aerosmith so I was really looking forward to this performance. It had real potential, but I had trouble hearing Adam. The background singer kept singing over him and it really took away from the performance. However, I enjoyed listening to a more “natural” Adam without the huge “performance” element.

Randy calls Adam one of the best ever on the Idol stage. This might be a bit much but he's in a class by himself this season. Kara calls him amazing and says she'll see him in the final. "And many years after that," Paula tacks on. Simon warns Adam's fans not to get complacent, the only thing that could keep him out of the final next week.

However, at this point on May 12, 2009 the American Idol is not really about who had the best performance as much as who has the largest number of voting fans. But I honestly think it will be a close call either way.

So who will it be in the final with Adam, Danny or Kris? My vote would be for Kris.

Is there anyone who envisions a Danny-Kris finale?

Millvina Dean is Last Titanic Survivor

Here is a picture of Millvina Dean. Millvina Dean is the last survivor of the Titantic who Leonardo DiCaprio and others have given money to assist in her nursing home bills.

After learning about the mounting nursing home bills for Millvina Dean, the last survivor of the sinking of the Titanic, the stars and director of the top-grossing film have made a "considerable donation" to her care, the U.K.'s Independent newspaper reports.

Elizabeth Gladys “Millvina” Dean is 97 years old and is the last living survivor of the RMS Titanic. Millvina was also the youngest passenger of the Titanic. She now lives in Southampton, from where the ship set sail in 1912.

As the last living survivor, she is now in failing health following a broken hip. She was forced to sell some of her prized Titanic memorabilia in order to pay for her private medical care at a nursing home in Southhampton in England. Among those possessions was a letter that her mother received from the Titanic Relief Fund, and a suitcase that was given to her mother in New York following the ship’s sinking.

Dean’s ongoing care averages approximately $6,000 per month. In May 2009 the Millvina Fund was set up by Don Mullan, a photographer for a newspaper in Northern Ireland. Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio and James Cameron have all contributed to a fund established for Dean who had bee selling her autograph to make ends meet, ended up donating $44,000 to pay Dean’s bills and provide continued support.

Mullan said:

“An old woman, still trying to survive, this time from drowning under the weight of meeting her nursing home expenses, simply wasn’t right, especially given the enormous sums of money the story of Titanic had generated in the recent past. There were people out there who could, and I felt, morally should, help her. To fail Millvina Dean, the last tangible living link to the Titanic, would make a mockery of the world’s expressed concern for the tragedy.”

A statement by Winslet and DiCaprio said, “We are honored to contribute to the Millvina Fund. Our hope is that others will feel inspired by Millvina Dean’s remarkable story of survival, and we hope that she can rest easier in knowing that her future will become more secure through this fund.”

According to Mullan, those who originally purchased Millvina Dean’s memorabilia have returned the items to her.

The fund is the following:

The Millvina Fund. Bank: National Westminster Bank Ltd, 446 Warrington Road, Culcheth, Warrington, WA3 5QS, United Kingdom. Sort Code: 01-02-46. Account Number: 24075922.

Legend Chuck Daly Dies at 78

Chuck Daly, who coached the Dream Team to the Olympic gold medal in 1992 after winning back-to-back NBA championships with the Detroit Pistons, has died. He was 78.

He died Saturday morning in Jupiter, Fla., with his family by his side, the team said. The Pistons announced in March the Hall of Fame coach was being treated for pancreatic cancer.
Daly was renowned for his ability to create harmony out of diverse personalities at all levels of the game, whether they were Ivy Leaguers at Pennsylvania, Dream Teamers Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley, or Pistons as dissimilar as Dennis Rodman and Joe Dumars.

Before Daly, “The Pistons’ legacy was two men deep,” Free Press sports writer Charlie Vincent wrote in 1996. “Bob Lanier had played here. And Dave Bing.”

That changed in May 1983 when the Pistons hired Daly to coach a team that had never posted back-to-back winning seasons.

He stayed nine seasons, making the playoffs each year. His team posted five straight seasons with 50 or more victories and went to the Eastern Conference finals each year from 1987 to 1991.

Daly was voted one of the 10 greatest coaches of the NBA's first half-century in 1996, two years after being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He was the first coach to win both NBA and Olympic titles.

They won the NBA titles in 1989 and 1990. In ’89, with Finals MVP Joe Dumars leading the way, they swept a Los Angeles Lakers team that went 11-0 in its first three playoffs rounds. They returned to the Finals in 1990, beating the Portland Trail Blazers in five games.

His NBA coaching record — including one season in Cleveland before coming to Detroit, and two seasons each in New Jersey and Orlando after the Pistons — was 638-437 (.593). His record with the Pistons: 467-271 (.633), plus 71-42 in the playoffs.

The identity still attached to the Pistons franchise was born under Daly’s influence.
His teams played hard. They won with defense. They were physical — so rough and tumble that the nickname Bad Boys quickly stuck.

Daly is survived by his wife, Terry, daughter Cydney and grandchildren Sebrina and Connor.

Drew Peterson Arrested on Murder

Drew Peterson, the former police sergeant and prime suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, has been indicted on murder charges related to his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Peterson was taken into custody today!

Illinois police and prosecutors are scheduled to hold a news conference at 8:30 p.m. CDT Thursday about the murder indictment. Peterson is accused of killing Kathleen Savio, who was found dead in a dry bathtub in her home on March 1, 2004.

MyFOXChicago.com reported that Peterson was arrested at 5:35 p.m. Thursday after state police surrounded his car at an intersection. Peterson was alone in his car at the time.

A grand jury indicted Peterson in the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, whose death had been ruled an accidental drowning.

He said the grand jury continues to meet and is studying the possibility of charges in Stacy Peterson's disappearance.

After Stacy Peterson went missing in October 2007, media frenzy and police scrutiny on Peterson revealed Savio had died mysteriously a few years earlier during a nasty divorce.

Savio died just before the division of the marital assets was finalized, making Drew Peterson the sole beneficiary.

Drew said that Savio had died of an accidental drowning, but her body was found in a dry bathtub! Her death has now been ruled a "homicide staged to look like an accident."

Kathleen Savio's brother Nick said,

"The state police had been telling us the day was coming. We kept hearing it for about eight months. I'm almost in tears here. It's been so hard for our family."

The lawsuit seeks more than $100,000 and alleges Peterson killed Savio before a scheduled trial over the divorced couple's property.

This is the feel good story of the month. Drew Peterson is a sick, sick heartless man. May he forever regret the days that he allegedly killed his young, poor, innocent wives.

From 1977, the Buffalo-area congressman advocated in favor of the Kemp-Roth tax cut, which became law in 1981 under President Reagan. Kemp served in the House from 1971 to 1989.

He was seen as a rising star in the party in the Reagan years, but his 1988 presidential campaign against Bob Dole and George HW Bush flamed out.

Kemp served as Bush's HUD Secretary, but was always viewed warily by Bush loyalists.

Despite their political differences, Dole the deficit hawk and Kemp the supply sider teamed up in 1996 on the GOP ticket.

Kemp gave Dole a boost, but the pick was not enough to make the contest competitive.

After, Kemp teamed up with William Bennett on the conservative PAC Empower America, but never entered electoral politics again.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., called Kemp "one of the nation's most distinguished public servants. Jack was a powerful voice in American politics for more than four decades."

“He championed free market principles that improved the lives of millions of Americans and helped unleash an entrepreneurial spirit that all of us still benefit from today. Jack was a leading voice for a strong national defense, civil rights, and any other policy that empowered people. Whether as a quarterback, a congressman, or a cabinet secretary, his life was defined by vision and by a firm commitment to the service of others."

Former President George W. Bush expressed his sorrow after hearing of Kemp's death.

"Laura and I are saddened by the death of Jack Kemp." he said. "Jack will be remembered for his significant contributions to the Reagan revolution and his steadfast dedication to conservative principles during his long and distinguished career in public service. Jack's wife Joanne and the rest of the Kemp family are in our thoughts and prayers."

Aside from pushing the GOP to embrace tax cuts, Kemp also urged his party to reach out to minority voters. He credited his liberal views on race in part to his time on the gridiron, recalling in an article entitled "The Inspiration of the Football Huddle":

"We didn't tolerate bigotry on the field, either. Any difference in race, creed and class immediately dissolved in the common aim of a team win. Divisiveness only weakens a team. It has no place in a huddle, on or off the field."

The garrulous Kemp was a hit on the GOP dinner circuit, his passion for politics infectious if occasionally grating on his political rivals.

Kemp, whose football career lasted from 1957-1969, led the Buffalo Bills to back-to-back AFL championships in 1945 and 1965, and was the league's Most Valuable Player that second year. He co-founded the the American Football League Players Association in the 1960s, and was five times elected its president.

No fan of European football, known here as soccer, he once observed on the House floor, "I think it is important for all those young out there — who someday hope to play real football, where you throw it and kick it and run with it and put it in your hands — [that] a distinction should be made that football is democratic capitalism, whereas soccer is a European socialist sport."
