The Craigslist Killer and Julissa Brisman

Boston has a Craigslist killer and Julissa Brisman, is the latest victim of the murderer who targets women advertising services on the popular site.

Julissa Brisman was a young model who lived in New York City, but seemed always on the move. She would jet off to Colorado, as she did recently, or fly to Chicago, always a bit mysteriously, her friends said.

26-year old Julissa Brisman was shot to death when she struggled with the Craigslist killer in the doorway of her hotel room at the Marriott Copley Place hotel Tuesday night.

Brisman was shot multiple times in the torso and police found a plastic restraint on one wrist.

The Craigslist killer calls women advertising services on the site, makes appointments to meet them at luxury hotels and then immediately ties them up and robs or kills them when he arrives.

Hotel guest Jane Greenberg was reading a book in a nearby room when she heard banging and other noises coming from the hallway.

The Boston Police Department said in a statement that a robbery might have taken a turn for the worse. “It appears that the victim engaged in a struggle in the threshold of the hotel room immediately prior to the shooting,” the police said.

Detectives in Boston are investigating whether her killing was related to a robbery on Friday at the Westin Hotel Copley Place, where a 29-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room.

Hundreds of miles from Boston, those in New York who knew Ms. Brisman tried to absorb the news of her death.

Many said they had tried to phone her or send text messages to her, but got no response. Others pointed out that her online activity had uncharacteristically waned in recent days, saying that usually, even when she traveled around the country, she stayed linked through the Internet.

India Autry, 24, a student at New York University Law School who described herself as a friend, said that Ms. Brisman had not been active on the Facebook Web site since Tuesday morning. “She is usually very active on that,” she said. “It’s just a horrible tragedy.”

Ms. Autry said the last time she had seen Ms. Brisman was a “couple weeks ago.” She said Ms. Brisman had a dog and was “lively, cheerful and caring.”

On April 10, another woman who advertised on Craigslist was bound with plastic restraints and robbed at gunpoint at the nearby Westin Copley hotel by the same man.

On January 17, Donna Rao - who also advertised her services on Craigslist - was tied up and robbed at the nearby Back Bay Sheraton Hotel.

The killer seems to be obssessed with his Blackberry and often wears a Red Sox cap to hide his face.
