John Wetteland hospitalized

Thirteen years ago, he was standing on the pitching mound at Yankee Stadium. He also was standing on top of the world, putting his index finger in the air and proclaiming the Yankees #1.

But today, the Mariners bullpen coach and longtime major-league closer John Wetteland has been hospitalized for what Denton County officials called "a mental health issue."

The story on the CBS 11 News website out of Dallas says that "officers took a call from the Argyle/Bartonville area at 12:30 p.m. Thursday on a possibly suicidal person. When officers arrived to the home, a man later identified as Wetteland came out with his hands in the air, saying he "needed help.''

Wetteland lives is Bartonville, Texas. He was collecting the 1996 WS MVP trophy for his four saves in that WS. With the emergence of Mariano though, getting that final out of the 1996 WS was the last out John Wetteland recorded as a Yankee.

We can only keep him in our prayers and hope all eventually works out ok.
